Top 5 Sneaker Releases of 2017
As 2017 comes to a close, let's reflect on our favorite sneakers of 2017 and open up the 'sneaker scetion' on the Pudl.
5) Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Semi-Frozen Yellow'
Whether you like it or not, Yeezys transformed the sneaker aftermarket. Before Kanye and Adidas did a collab, there was no other shoe that took such a staple in the sneaker industry. Shoes like the Yeezys created words like "cop" and "fake shoes". Of all the Yeezy releases in 2017, the 'Semi-Frozen Yellow' stand out due to their unique vibrant colorway, rarity, and hyped release in November, peak Yeezy restock season.
4) Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% 'Crimson'
While the Zoom Vaporfly is a lesser known shoe, it has become synonymous with Nike's branding of greatness. The Zoom Vaporfly was at the center of Breaking2, a project to break the last running barrier, a sub-2 hour marathon. Top marathoners such as Shalane Flanagan can be seen sporting the Vaporflys' on race day. Shalane became the first female American to win a marathon in 40 years.
3) Kaws x Air Jordan IV 'Cool Grey'
New York Street artist, Kaws, didn't dissappoint. The Kaws x Air Jordan IV collaboration has been written about so many times this year that there’s literally nothing else to say about it. Kaws did an Air Jordan, and it was really, really good. It had his artwork on the upper, his “XX” replaced “Nike” on the heeltab, they had glow-in-the-dark outsoles, and they were released in limited numbers, making them feel special.
2) Pharrell x N.E.R.D. x NMD Trail 'Human Race'
Pharrell, surprisingly, had a bigger year in sneakers than Kanye West. Part of it was due to his big role at ComplexCon, where he released a limited-edition version of his Adidas NMD sneaker that paid tribute to his group, N*E*R*D, who also headlined the event. The N*E*R*D sneakers were limited to 300 pairs and re-selling for over $5,000.

Every sneakerhead has heard of the name Virgil Abloh and his story. But nothing more needs to be said about his inspirational sneaker designs. His Air Jordan I Retros aren't his only accomplishment but has stood out from the rest. Virgil's entire "off-white" line is a thing of beauty. He took shoes apart and built them back up with noticeable flaws.
